June 16th 2000 – Snetterton Left
the Isle of Man on Thursday 15th June on the 2115 hrs ferry to
Liverpool. Just me, my girlfriend
Ann, and our trusty (hopefully) Mercedes 310D van.
We went a day early just in case we ran into any problems, also if we got
down to East Anglia early enough there was a track day on the Friday all day,
and it was cheaper on the boat for a five day excursion. It
took us five hours to get there so we stopped for a couple of hours kip and made
our way to the track, signed on for the afternoon session at the cost of 50
quid. All
the top boys seemed to be testing there for the British Superbike round the
following week, Walker, Moodie, Jeffries, Rutter, Toseland, McCarthy. Lewellyn,
Crawford, to name but a few……. It
was quite an experience being on the same track as those blokes and see how fast
they are really going……… much faster than it looks on the telly that’s
for sure. How some of them stay on
is beyond me. Anyway,
had three, twenty minute sessions, two of which were cut short due to
crashes…….. my lap times started at 1'28 and I got them down to 1'20, Juan
said his best time was 1'18 and he’s been there twice before, so I was quite
happy with that…… until you see Walker going around in 1'07. Stayed in the paddock for the night and slept in the van, Juan and his girlfriend Dawn were driving down and meeting us there in their trusty Transit Diesel. They didn’t arrive till the early hours, by that time I was well asleep. |
